Day
1: Hanoi – Hoa Binh - Mai Chau (L,D)
After breakfast we depart from Hanoi for
traveling to Hoa Binh province. We pass a region
of spectacular limestone mountains and spend the
day exploring local villages with the
hospitality of Thai minority people - so called
Ban Lac, said to be distantly related to tribes
in Thailand, Laos. Lunch in the village. In the
afternoon, walking across the beautiful valley
through the rice fields and trekking to minority
villages. After dinner, we also enjoy
traditional dance and special wine in the
village’s house. Overnight in Mai Chau
Day 2: Mai Chau – Pu Luong
(L,D)
After breakfast we depart from Mai Chau for Pu
Luong Natural Reserve. This scenic drive takes 1
four . Following lunch in Ban Sai village we
drive further into the reserve where we begin
our trek. We trek for approximately three hours
before arriving at the Thai village of Hang. We
spend the night with a local Thai family who
will be our hosts in a traditional house built
on stilts. Whilst enjoying their hospitality we
will discover a little more about their lives
and culture.
Day 3: Pu Luong (B,L,D)
This morning we have the opportunity to stroll
around Hang village before our trek. Today we
will be walking for approximately six hours.
Along the way we will visit several Thai
villages and hamlets before arriving at the
village of Kho Muong. As the name suggests this
is a Muong minority village where we will spend
the night.
Day 4: Pu Luong (B,L,D)
Today we have a full day's trek as we climb to
the summit of Pu Luong Mountain. En route we
pass a number of small hamlets and minority
villages. At the summit, the panoramic views of
Pu Luong are magnificent. The climb to the top
takes around eight hours with a further two
hours for the descent to the village of Cao
Hoong where we will spend the night.
Day 5: Pu Luong (B,L,D)
Todays's hike through verdant countryside will
take around five hours as we meet the local
population going about their daily lives -
cultivating the fields and herding buffalo. In
the afternoon we arrive at the village of Trinh.
Day 6: Pu Luong (B,L,D)
Departing Trinh village we have a six hour trek
to our next home stay in Son village. This
village is located on the slopes of the mountain
and offers a cooler climate.
Day 7: Pu Luong - Hanoi (B,L)
We leave Son village and walk through several
hamlets and villages for approximately three
hours. We then rendezvous with our awaiting
vehicle that will take us back to Hanoi where
the trip ends.
